Sight Words Flash Card Games

Games are a great way to make sight words flash cards fun for kids. Research shows that play based learning can boost a learner’s attention span and retention. Here are some fun games that you can use with our sight words flashcards to enhance your child’s learning experience.

  1. Complete the Sentence - Create a sentence with 1 missing word. The learner then selects a word card from the deck that fits and reads the completed sentence.
  2. Create a Sentence - Give the learner a subset of cards from the deck. The learner then creates a sentence from the cards.  Tip: It helps to sift through the deck for nouns, pronouns, adjectives and verbs so that the learner can create complete sentences.
  3. Interactive Sentence - Divide the deck between two people.  Each person takes turns playing cards to create and modify a sentence together.
  4. Slapjack - Lay out 3 or more cards within arm’s reach of each player.  Call out one of the 3 words. The first player to slap down on the card with that word gets to keep it. The player with the most cards at the end wins.
  5. Search the Deck - Choose a word from the index on the back of the card box. The learner must then search through the deck to find the corresponding card.
  6. Word Hunt- Give players old magazines, flyers, newspapers, etc.  Then select a word (or more) from the deck. Players then race to find the word(s) in their magazines and receive 3 points for the first instance of the word and 1 point for each additional instance.  The player with the most points wins.
