How to teach sight words to struggling readers?
It is important to be patient and encourage the struggling reader so they are more apt to be willing and motivated to spend time learning to read. Another important aspect is to spend one-on-one time with the reader so they have quality time to practice, increasing their chances to integrate the words into long-term memory. Pointing to the words, using flashcards, repeating the words, seeing the words in context, and using alternate mediums like music or games helps to build sight word recognition and also helps to integrate a variety of learning styles for maximal learning.
