Why are sight words important?

Sight words are important because of their frequency of appearance in beginning reading materials. Therefore, if these words are introduced and mastered by beginning readers, these individuals will have a strong foundation for reading more difficult and expanded text. Although there are several sight word lists that vary in content, they all aim to divide the words into levels based on frequency of use in early readers and share the same purpose, that is to help beginning readers meet reading success and to build on this success to be proficient readers.
